UD Green Liaisons lunch program to focus on Colburn green roof

12:27 p.m., Oct. 8, 2012–The University of Delaware Green Liaisons will meet for the first lunchtime presentation of the 2012-13 academic year from 1:15-2:15 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, in 206 Trabant University Center.

The focus of the meeting will be the green roof at Colburn Laboratory.

Green roofs, or thin vegetated roofs, are increasingly used as an emerging solution to reduce energy costs, lengthen roof lifespans, and protect water quality.

Starting in 2008, an interdisciplinary team at UD worked to design and install the University’s first green roof over the classroom wing of the Colburn Lab.

The project was completed this summer and Chad Nelson, assistant professor of landscape design, will share the history of the project and will offer insights for groups interested in pursuing other green roof projects.
