RAISING A TOAST TO UD’S NEW DOCTORS
The University of Delaware added a new twist to its tradition-rich Doctoral Hooding Ceremony on Thursday, May 25, celebrating the more than 350 students who have earned their doctorates in the past year by raising a celebratory toast.
2023 HIGH INDEX SENIOR
Ishika Govil, a graduating senior at the University of Delaware, was drawn to UD because of its highly ranked chemical engineering program. But after doing remote research during the pandemic, she realized that she could combine her love of coding with the creative side of science and decided to add a second major in computer science.
FOSTERING INQUIRY AND INNOVATION
An impressive 15 University of Delaware undergraduate and graduate students and alumni were selected for the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program’s 2023 Class of Fellows. Four additional UD students and two alumni earned honorable mentions.

2023 College of Engineering faculty promotions
During its semiannual meeting on May 16, the University of Delaware Board of Trustees approved the promotions of 80 faculty members and awarded emeritus status to 22 professors. Eleven faculty from the College of Engineering were promoted and three were awarded emeritus status.
PUSHING BOUNDARIES
There was palpable energy in the room on Monday, May 8, as the University of Delaware leadership and members of the Delaware Congressional delegation gathered to recognize the University’s nearly 300 inventors for their ingenuity and creativity in developing solutions with the potential to change lives for the better.
GOLDWATER SCHOLARS
Four University of Delaware students received 2023 Goldwater Scholarships, one of the oldest and most prestigious awards for undergraduate students planning research careers in mathematics, natural sciences or engineering.
UD GRADUATE PROGRAMS AMONG THE BEST IN THE NATION
In the 2024 edition of Best Graduate Schools, U.S. News and World Report has ranked 22 University of Delaware graduate programs among the best in the nation, including 10 in the top 50. More than half of the UD programs increased their rankings this year.
