Chemical engineering program ranked ninth in the nation by U.S. News

The University of Delaware’s undergraduate chemical engineering program is ranked ninth in the nation in U.S. News and World Report’s 2019 Best Colleges edition. The ranking covers those programs where the highest engineering degree awarded is the doctorate.

In addition, the University overall undergraduate engineering program is ranked at 55.

In other rankings released today, Sept. 10, by U.S. News, UD continues to be one of the top-ranked public universities in the country, tying this year at #38 among national public universities. UD tied at #89 among both private and public national universities. In addition, UD is also listed:

  • 53rd in best colleges for veterans;
  • 87th among the best undergraduate business programs; and
  • 87th in ranking by high school guidance counselors from public, private and parochial high schools in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

“While we are pleased to see our University once again recognized among the top 100 by U.S. News and World Report, our primary focus at the University of Delaware is to build lasting academic excellence and impact on our society,” said UD President Dennis Assanis. “We are focused on student success through world-class scholarship, research and service across the entire University. We want our students to have an excellent experience while here on campus, and also to prepare them for robust and productive careers beyond graduation. Several initiatives are currently underway at UD to enhance accessibility, affordability and diversity for all of our students.”

The data for UD remained largely on par with previous years, despite changes to the methodology that now emphasize enrollment of students receiving federal assistance. Factors in this year’s ranking where UD improved include class size, student-to-faculty ratio and graduation rate, consistent with the University’s focus on improved student experience and outcomes.

Assanis added, “We are so inspired by what the future has to offer as UD continues to emerge as a powerhouse of innovation and entrepreneurship, economic development and global impact.”
